About Chisinau railway station

Chisinau railway station is the main railway station in the capital of the Republic of Moldova, Chisinau. The station was built in 1870 according to the design of architect Ghenrih Lonski. The first train arrived in Chisinau station in August 1871. The Moldovan Railroad is the institution that manages the station. Some distances by rail: to Bucharest 529 km, to Iasi 97 km, to Moscow 1144 km, to Bender (Tighina) 53 km.

1. The Deportation Monument

On Yuri Gagarin Boulevard, next to the railway station, there is a small park with a small monument to deportees. It is erected in memory of the victims of deportations by the communist regime. The monument is particularly expressive. An artesian fountain is also installed in the park.

2. Station architecture

The architecture of the train station is neoclassical. It is an eye-catcher. The entrance is under 2 columns. There is a lot of marble inside. The station has an upper floor with interior balconies. Several red marble columns are eye-catching. On the walls there are beautiful thematic paintings.

3. The platforms and the locomotive

There are several ways through the station building to exit to the platforms. Passenger trains park on the first 2 lines, which have covered platforms. An old steam locomotive is on display at the end of track 1.
