Pharmaceutical Museum, Târgu Secuiesc, Covasna

A small museum to put on the tourist circuit

Where is it, when to visit, how much does it cost?

Pharmaceutical Museum it is located in Târgu Secuiesc, Covasna county, on 12 Curtea Street, at number 1, on the first floor of the Finta House. Officially it is open Monday through Friday from 10-16. I was able to visit it by asking at the Tourist Info Center in Târgu Secuiesc, where a very hospitable gentleman came specially to open the museum for me. The visit was free of charge.

About the Pharmaceutical Museum

The Finta House, which houses the Pharmaceutical Museum, was built in 1835. The exhibits in the museum are due to the care of the doctor Boga Olivér Olivér, who hid them under communism. They were first exhibited in 2008 in the Gerontology and Rehabilitation Center in Lower Lemnia.

To our knowledge, there are currently 23 pharmaceutical museums in the country. Most of them operate within institutions. In Transylvania four are highlighted, one of which is in Târgu Secuiesc. The museum's current development is thanks to the work of the civil association 'Let's act for the Kézdi Chair'.

1. Museum

The museum exhibits come from the years after World War II, from the inventory of pharmacies 24 and 52 in Târgu Secuiesc and from the collection of doctor Boga Olivér Olivér. We find pharmacy furniture, pharmaceutical scales, specific containers, a small specilaity library, laboratory accessories and apparatus, as well as bags for medicinal plants and a framed diploma.

2. House and balcony

The house is located in the central square. You enter into a seceded courtyard, from where you go up to the first floor where the museum is located. The museum's balcony offers a beautiful view of Gábor Áron Park and the historic center of Târgu Secuiesc.
