About Târgu Secuiesc

Târgu Secuiesc is a town in Covasna county, in Transylvania, Romania. It has 18,000 inhabitants, of which 85% are Hungarians, Romanians being only 6%. In terms of religious affiliation, 70% are Roman Catholics and 20% are Reformed. Târgu Secuiesc is called Kézdivásárhely in Hungarian and Szekler Neumarkt in German. 40km via DN11 and DN13E to the county seat of Sfântu Gheorghe by road in 45 minutes, and almost 2 hours by train. The Turia River flows through the town.

1. Tourist info center

Tourist info center is located at 1 Courtyard Street 12, with entrance from Gábor Áron Square. It is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. Here I got a map, a tourist guide, but also a real ... tour guide, because the very hospitable gentleman here offered to take me through the specific streets, show me the Courtyards and open the Pharmaceutical Museum for me.

2. Pharmaceutical Museum

The Farmceutic Museum is located at 1 Courtyard Street 12, entrance from Gábor Áron Square. It is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. It is housed in Fake House, built in 1835, part of the historic city center. Read a detailed article here.

3. Courts

Târgu Secuiesc is city of courtyards. What are they? There are 73 narrow streets, mostly running perpendicular to the central square, parallel to each other. Some are dead-end streets. At the end of them facing the square, there were houses where the bredlazes sold at the market. On the rest of the street, other family households developed on either side. At times the courtyards bore family names such as Jancso, Csiszar, Balogh, Kovacs, Racz.

4. Incze László Incze Guild History Museum

Guild MuseumIt is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 2pm. It is housed in another building in the historic center, the former town hall, one of the oldest buildings in the city. It displays exhibits specific to the crafts developed here by guilds such as potters, tanners, shoemakers, leatherworkers, blacksmiths, blacksmiths, hatters, carpenters. In the courtyard is a copy of the cannon of Gábor Áron, a local revolutionary and a local pașoptist. 5. Historical center

Historical center of Târgu Secuiesc is organized around the Gábor Áron Square and the neighboring streets. The market square has a trapezoidal shape. It was the commercial center of the town. Here you can find Town Hall and House of Culture.

6. Park Gábor Áron

Park Gábor Áron can be found in the trapeze inscribed in Gábor Áron Square. It has been here since 1971 statue of Gábor Áron. Gábor Áron (1814 - 1849), an artillery officer, is famous for his cannon castings and his participation in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849.

7. Wegener Park

Wegener Park is located between Margaret, Court 71 and Roses. It is a well-kept neighborhood park. The park was named after one of its founders in 1993.

8. Wesselényi Miklós Municipal Library

Municipal Library is located at 12 Petőfi Sándor Street. It is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 10am-5pm, and on Mondays and Fridays from 10am-4pm. On the same street is the bust of Turoczi Mozes, who cast copper cannons behind his house in 1849.

9. Reformed Church

It is located in Gábor Áron Square 2. The building reformed church in Târgu Secuiesc began in 1770-1783 on the foundation of an old wooden church. The church is built in baroque and classicist style. Destroyed by fire in 1834, it was rebuilt in 1838. It is the largest Reformed church in south-eastern Transylvania. The church organ dates from 1861.
