Every summer, Hoghilagul comes to life as The Land of Tuberoses Festival, an event where flowers, music, traditions, and the community come together in a unique atmosphere.

In addition to tours of the tuberose gardens, tastings, and cultural activities, the program includes shows and musical performances held near the Evangelical Church in Hoghilag. A special moment is provided by The Turnișor Marching Band. The marching band's music fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the Transylvanian village, transforming the visit to the Land of Tuberoses into an experience in which The scent of flowers blends with the sound of music and local traditions.

The festival isn't just about tuberoses—it's about people, stories, local flavors, and the joy of rediscovering an authentic village in the heart of Transylvania.

2. The Fortified Evangelical Church in Hoghilag

In the center of the village of Hoghilag is evangelical church, an important landmark of the community and a testament to the area’s Saxon past. The church is first mentioned in historical records as early as 1446, and the church's current form dates primarily from the 19th century, following the expansion and renovation work completed in 1834.

The church is part of Hoghilag's traditional landscape and provides a unique setting for The Land of Tuberoses Festival, when the area around it comes alive with music, performances, and cultural events.

An interesting detail is the organ built in 1819–1820 by Samuel Maetz of Biertan, a valuable instrument that is now housed at the „Gheorghe Dima” Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca.

3. The Land of the Tuberozels

Hoghilagul is known today as „The Land of the Tuberoz”, thanks to a tradition of growing these fragrant flowers, adopted from the Saxons in the community and passed down from generation to generation.

In August, the locals’ gardens are transformed into a spectacle of fragrance and color. Guided tours offer the opportunity to get an up-close look at tuberose cultivation and the meticulous work that goes into growing these delicate flowers.

Tuberculosis has become the symbol of Hoghilag and the hard work of its residents. A visit here is more than just a stroll among the flowers: it’s an encounter with the people, traditions, and authentic atmosphere of a Transylvanian village.
