Walk down the colorful stairs

Where are they, when to visit them?

Stairway to Happiness is located in sector 5 of the capital Bucharest, in the Cotroceni residential district, at the address Dr. Grigore Romniceanu 13. It is a public space and can be visited and walked around for free at any time. Nearby is Romniceanu Park.

About Stairway to Happiness

The stairs were built in the 1920′s. Back then, this was the carriage park around the Cotroceni monastery. Today this is the Cotroceni neighborhood, a quiet and select neighborhood of villas. The staircase was and is intended to make it easier to go up/down the difference in levels between the upper and lower streets. In 2020, the stairs were painted in the colors of the rainbow and given the name Stairway to Happiness.

1. Stairs to Happiness

Stairway to Happiness or Romniceanu Steps connects Dr. Grigore Romniceanu Street with Alexandru Vitzu Street. They're brightly colored in rainbow hues. They have a metal balustrade in the middle, a decorative element reminiscent of inter-war Paris.

2. Romniceanu Park

On Google Maps, Romniceanu Park appears as Dr. Dumitru Draghiescu Street. In fact, the park is squeezed between the streets Dr. Grigore Romniceanu, continued by Dr. Thoma Ionescu street, which intersects in a curve the above mentioned street, and Alexandru Vitzu street, continued by Professor Dr. Francisc Iosif Rainer street. It is a sloping park with several paths with stairs. In the middle of the park is Romniceanu fountain. In its curved and narrowest part are monumental stairs. As in any park there are playgrounds.
