Greenhouses in Drumul Taberei, Bucharest

A walk through the world of plants

Where? When? How much does it cost?

The greenhouses in Drumul Taberei Park are of course in ... Drumul Taberei Park. Drumul Taberei Park is located in sector 6 in Bucharest, bordered by Drumul Taberei street, Brasov street, Topolovăț street and Târgu Neamț street. There are paid parking lots around the park. By public transportation the easiest way to get to the Parc Drumul Taberei station is by metro line 5. The greenhouses are the side of the park from the metro station.

From October to March, it is open from Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 3pm. Entry is every 20 minutes, and the last entry is 40 minutes before closing time. Weekday opening hours are 3 hours longer from April to September.

Access to the greenhouses is free of charge. Guided tours only. You visit 7 exhibition pavilions following a guided route.

About Drumul Taberei Greenhouses

In order to maintain the optimal temperature and humidity in the greenhouses, as well as to streamline consumption and maintenance costs, 224 geothermal boreholes were drilled. This modern and eco-friendly solution is unique in the Capital, and in Romania it is surpassed in terms of power only by the Măgurele Laser. They were opened to the public in 2019, after the landscaping of Drumul Taberei Park.

The 7 pavilions you can visit are Tropical 1, Mediterranean, Tropical 2, Cactus Desert, Succulent Desert, Palmarium and Equatorial.

1. Tropical 1

The temperature is 22 - 24 degrees Celsius and the humidity 75 - 85 %. We will encounter banana tree, white bird, room fir, croton, rubber ficus, aglaonema, anthurium and others. I liked the anthurium best, which I knew from flower shops.

We will find orange, olive, Japanese rose, asparagus or rabbit's shade, lemon, others. I most liked a tree with orange flowers, very open and with many leaves, but I didn't remember the name.

3. Tropical 2

The temperature is 22 - 24 degrees Celsius, and the humidity 75 - 85%, as in Tropical 1. We will admire the bird of paradise, the traveler's tree, again the white bird, various ficus and others. Ficus trees with their big white leaves have fascinated me since I traveled to Malaysia.

4. Desert - cacti

The maximum temperature is 24 - 26 degrees Celsius, the minimum 12 - 14 degrees Celsius, and the humidity 30 - 40%. Here there are pachipodium lamerei, red cathedral, mother-in-law's tongue, mother-in-law's stool, several species of euphorbia, ficus indica, others. In reality, the conditions in which these plants live in the wild are much harsher, even enduring negative temperatures. All cacti are spectacular.

Recommendation

Complete a walk in Drumul Taberei Park with a visit to the greenhouses, which look great. You will be able to enjoy the wonderful flora that grows in the warm countries of the world. Guiding is very good. Consider the visiting hours. Don't count on going in with the last set because they accept a set number of visitors per guided tour.

Another interesting visit in Bucharest is to Carol I Park or on Stairway to Happiness or the Parliament Palace which you can read about here https://mytravel.express/obiective-mte/palatul-parlamentului-bucuresti/

All the best!
