1. Weather Station Iezer / camping site (1780 m) - Lake Iezer (1825 m) - Peak Pietrosul Rodnei (2303 m)

2 hours / 3 km / hard / blue lane

We set off praying that the mist on the Pietrosul peak will clear. In a few minutes we pass Lake Iezer, the last water supply for the next 4-5 hours. The path winds up in many serpentines to the ridge. We admire Lake Iezer from many positions for its shape that has the outline of the map of Romania. marmots whistle among the rocks. On the left side we have the Grohotu ridge, and on the right we have the Santa's Foot Mountains. Once on the ridge we admire the glacial caldera of Lake Iezer and continue to the right for another 15 minutes to the summit.

2. Peak Pietrosul Rodnei (2303 mdm)

The peak of Pietrosul Rodnei is the highest peak in the Rodna Mountains and the highest peak in the Eastern Carpathians. The fog never lets up. Partial views of the surroundings rarely open up. To the north, at the foot of the mountain, we have the town of Borșa and behind it the Maramureș Mountains with Toroioaga Peak in the foreground. To the east stretches the Muchia Piciorul Moșului, to the west the valley of the Pietrosului stream, other than the Pietrosul river which springs from Lake Iezer. Towards the south, the Curmătura Pietrosului and the Vârful Buhăescu Mare appear from time to time, towards which we will continue. It's windy, foggy and about to rain. Group photo. Congratulations to the group: Mihaela, Flavius, Petra, Bogdan, Patrik and Noemi. We spent 30 minutes on the summit. On the way!

3. Pietrosul Rodnei Peak (2303 m) - below Buhăescu Mare Peak (2268 m) - Buhăescu Mic Peak (2225 m) - below Rebra Peak (2119 m)

1.5-2 hours / 3 km / easy / blue stripe

We turn back half a kilometer on the same road, then continue straight ahead on the ridge road that descends into the Pietrosului Curve. The rain begins. From here you can see the Tăurile Buhăescului to the left. We will go around the peak of Buhăescu Mare on the right, then head towards the peak of Buhăescu Mic. This can also be avoided on the left, but we didn't take the shortcut. The descent to the Buhăescului Curmătura follows. To the left is Valea repede, to the right Valea Gropii. Ahead we have the Rebra Peak. The summer path avoids it by going left on the contour. The rain stops.

4. Under the Peak Rebra (2119 m) - Tarnița La Cruce (1984 m)

0.5 hours / 1 km / easy / red lane

Where the shortcut intersects the winter trail, a new marking appears, which we will follow from now on. We're on red tape. We'll take a lunch break to recharge. The weather's getting better. Through alpine pasture we reach the saddle called Tarnița La Cruce, where we intersect some wide bike paths. There are signposts in the saddle, but a clear one is missing exactly where we should be following the path, rather than the wide road ahead.

5. Tarnița La Cruce (1984 m) - under the Obârșia Rebrii Peak (2052 m) - Obârșia Rebrii Saddle (2002 m)

0.5 hours / 1 km / easy / red lane

We leave the wider road, half to the right. As a correct landmark, we must take the peak in front and the path that climbs up through the grass towards it, marked on stones in the grass and on a few metal posts above. We go around the Obârșia Rebrii peak to the right and reach the Obârșia Rebrii saddle, where we again have to be careful to identify the easier summer route, which avoids no less than 3 peaks: La Cățâni, Cormaia and Repede. On the right is the Gușatul Mare valley.

6. Obârșia Rebrii Saddle (2002 m) - La Cărți Spring - La Cărți Refuge (1835 m)

1-1.5 hours / 2-3 km / easy / red lane

We go down a path that at first is difficult to identify. We meet a herd of sheep with peaceful dogs. We come across 2 water pipes where we fill our water bottles. We have a little further to the saddle of La Cărți where the spring and the refuge of the same name are located. The refuge is in very good condition. Due to the wind, we decide to sleep in the refuge.

Conclusion

Creasta Rodnei 2/5 was a harder stage. We enjoyed the beautiful glacial lake Iezer and reached the peak Pietrosul Rodnei (2303 mdm), the highest peak in the Rodna Mountains and the Eastern Carpathians. After Pietrosul Rodnei we continued on the ridge with Mihaela and Flavius.

All the best!
