Immediately at the entrance there is a signpost marking the entrance to the steep, parapet-lined path leading up to the Cave of the Bats or St. Gregory the Decapolite Cave. We continue along the first part of the impressive gorge. Still to the left we identify at a certain point the deviation from the marked path to the Cave of the Bears, whose cavity appears immediately. At the upstream end of the gorges we find hazelnut trees and a spring, just opposite Forest Fairy Cottage.

4. Pietreni village (600 m) - Stone quarry - Bistrița Monastery (550 m)

1 hour / unmarked / easy

In Pietreni village we find the sign to the stone quarry. We enter the quarry on an obvious stone and dusty road. We pass a small lake and climb up a little and then descend. As in career there are many roads formed for trucks, we have to carefully follow the map to make our way through the shortcuts in Gypsyin the village of Bistrița. From here the paved road crosses the Bistrița river and reaches the entrance to the courtyard Bistrița Monastery.

Conclusion

The hike described above is a gentle one that crosses the Bistriței and Costești Gorges and the path that joins them crossing a small ridge. The most favorable period is the month of March when the spectacle of nature is completed by the carpets of rich, flowering snowdrops, a species of snowdrops more beautiful than the common snowdrops. They can be found in the area of Izvorului Constructorilor in the Costești Valley, at the confluence with Priboiul Mic and upstream along the stream.

Visit in the Skull Mountains and Ursu Peak on the main ridge of the massif.

All the best!
