Creasta Făgărașului 5/5 - Făgăraș Mountains

Luțele-Comisu Area (2050) - Lerescu Peak (1690) - Rudărița Canton (1100)

Continued by here (Vishtea Mare Refuge - Luțele-Comisu area).

This is Creasta Făgărașului 5/5 - the last stage of the "full ridge" route of the Făgăraș Mountains. It was an adventurous hike with a night descent through the forest and raspberry bushes. My goodness, it was a beautiful expedition to cover the entire Făgărașului Ridge!

1 - 1.5 hours / 3.5 km / red lane / easy

Around 2 a.m. I hear raindrops on the tent. After the last sunset, I wouldn't have expected it. But that's the way it is in the mountains, I told myself! Around 3 o'clock the rain stops. I hear movement in the next tent, I can't sleep. I hear footsteps. Suddenly someone unzips my tent. It was Serban! Dane, get up, get up, get up, get up, I don't like it here and we don't know what it's raining! Okay! Hooray, I was having a night adventure! We set up the tent on the spur of the moment. With our headlamps on, our cloaks on and our backpacks covered, we set off down the valley.

The route goes downhill through an alpine gap and passes by Comisu peak (1.883 mdm), then we leave on the left a blue triangle to Sebes, we pass through Comisu saddleon the edge of the forest at night. The rain stopped, so ha ha ha ha ha! C'ést la vie! We're on Lerescu peak (1,690 mdm).

2. Lerescu Peak (1.690 m) - Lerescului Ridge (1.369 m) - Rudărița Canton (1.100 m)

2 - 2.5 hours / 6 km / red lane, partly unmarked / easy

In Lerescu peak there's a small glen before entering deep into the forest. On the right you can see the dam lights Lake Pecineaguwhich was permanently in the valley to our right. From there springs Dâmbovița river. Now we enter the forest, it's not daylight yet. We often make sounds, whistles, so that the wild animals hear us and stay out of our way. They usually mind their own business, but as they're not used to meeting hikers at this time of day, it was good to have a shout now and then.

We come to a fork in the Leresc's curvature (1.369 m). From here the marked route continues on the right side but goes down, up and down again, and the left side, unmarked, but well known by Serban, takes us on a forest tractor road in the valley of a water source - in other words we only have to go down with the disadvantage that we might hit mud, who knows?

I wonder what we were doing at 6 o'clock in the morning after several hours of walking at night partly through the forest? Doing what? I don't want to spoil your appetite, but we were picking raspberries and then blackberries, with water on them from the overnight rain. So eco breakfast, yes! It's true that the bear might enjoy it too, but as I wrote, if we respect him, then he respects us!

Morning is making its way. Pools rise from the white sea of mist. The road wasn't so muddy. God, the forests are getting chopped up around here. The logging tractor road led us to a parape, which contained some iron, by the color, the parape then dipped into a larger one, the road widened, becoming a wider forest. From the right came the marked path that we met again, a good sign, and that's how we reached the Rudărița canton (1.100 mdm), the end point of the tour, where, thanks to Serban, someone was waiting for us for the last 9 km that were still to be covered on the Barsa Grosetului valley until the Plaiul Foii hut, known to many and where you can reach on asphalt. 3 km before Plaiul Foii there is a spring, useful for those who start in the opposite direction.

Conclusion

Creasta Făgărașului 5/5 represents the exit stage from the crest of the Făgăraș Mountains, in the Rudărița-Plaiul Foii area, where many spectacular trails start towards the Piatra Craiului Mountains. It was an easy but adrenaline-pumping last stage, partly at night and through the forest.

All the best!
