Lake Santa Caterina, Veneto, Italy

Goodbye Dolomites, goodbye Three Peaks!

Access

From Misurina on the SR 48 downhill 26 km and in about half an hour we arrive on wheels at Lake St. Catherine, in localitatea Auronzo di Cadore. We enjoy another half day in the region Veneto.

1. First impression and perspective

2 images - 2 x wow! The turquoise water, of an unreal color, has Lake St. Catherine, and .... in the background towards the back, Three Peaks. Now I also made the connection with the name Auronzo, the name of the refuge / hut we met yesterday near the impressive peaks of the Tre Cime. Wow, wow!

By chance we found a great place to park, because from here the most beautiful landscape is visible. It was clear to us now that the waters of the lake have their sources near the Tre Cime. We were near a lookout point with a bench and a view of millions.

2. Diga di Santa Caterina and lake tour

What's more, we were next to an old 12th century church and a bridge, St. Catherine Dam. This means that the wonderful lake is a dam lake, an artificial lake, trapped between the shores and the dike. At the end of the dike there were 2 bas-reliefs representing 2 winged white lions looking at each other. Access to the dike is allowed, so we crossed it. The view towards the upper end of the lake and the Tre Cime is a subject of admiration on the lips of the whole group.

I turned the wheel on a piece of lake, following a flat path on the opposite side of the road, at the edge of the forest and its coolness, but also some light drops of rain.

The walk took about 30 minutes, but it can triple that if you walk around the whole lake. Beautiful lake!

I say St. Catherine
