A great base for visiting the Dolomites

Access

Lake Misurina can be found in Veneto Region. Administratively it belongs to Auronzo di Cadore, a locality situated 20 km downstream. There is also the village of Misurina, right by the lake. Nearby, 15 km away is the well-known winter sports resort, Cortina d'Ampezzo. The proximity of Lago di Misurina is known as a good area for treating children's respiratory tract. Lago di Misurina is located on the SP49 which comes from the north of the South Tyrol region and meets near the SR48 delle Dolomiti lake.

About Lake Misurina

Lake Missurina It enjoys the eyes of passers-by at 1755 mdm. Its maximum depth is 5 m, its length is 1 km, its width is 0.3 km, and its surface measures 14 hectares. Lago di Misurina is surrounded by mountains: Three Peaks - the rocky peaks of the Dolomites, Monte Piana, Cadini, Monte Cristallo and Marmarole and Sorapiss. The views are mesmerizing and to base yourself for a few nights here on the lakeshore is a very good decision. Apart from the fact that the great attractions of the Dolomites are at relatively short distances, the colorful spectacle of the lake at sunrise, sunset, partly still or sunny mirroring the forest, the mountains is a must-see movie. Another argument is the extremely quiet area here. There's both camping and many hostels and hotels, but there's no fuss. It is an ideal place to rest.

1. Left bank

I invite you for a walk per pedes around the lake. The distance you can just as well run or cycle. The lake is fed by a small spring, coming from the north, where the symbol of the Dolomites - Three Peaks. The gorgeous lake is bordered on its left side by the forest by a dirt road that passes by springs, carpets of flowers and offers multiple views beyond each bend of the lake. At the tail of the lake there is a chairlift to the Rifugio Col de Varda and from here several hiking trails to peaks over 2500 m above sea level.

2. Right bank

Cross the downstream embankment and enter the right bank. Here is the asphalted road that inserts along it several restaurants, souvenir shops or sports equipment, but also accommodation. Other hikes can be organized on the trails that start after the road. At a certain point we leave the road to go slightly away from the lakeshore, but we continue on a dirt road forbidden to car traffic, which follows the lakeshore. The campsite is located just upstream of the lake. The circuit around the lake measures 3 km.
