2. Let’s climb the Citadel Hill!
The main path leaves from Cetate Park. In the mentioned small park, access with animals is not allowed, nor with bicycles, a strangeness that I do not understand. You can leave your car in the parking lot next to the park or in the parking lot next to the cable car. I started walking.
At the beginning, the road follows a concrete staircase uphill through the forest, then it continues with a path. In fact, there are several paths that go up to the fortress. If you want to reach the gate of the fortress – Gate I – and not the wall of the fortress, it is recommended to follow the main path, not the various secondary options that branch off from it. The main path is also the most easily accessible. If you want a bit more adrenaline and you want to make your way through the narrow lanes and manage to overcome the reconstructed wall of the fortress 3 to 10 meters high when you finally reach the top, then go up for inspiration. The main path passes through an artificial tunnel at some point. On the route I met many garbage bags placed from a greening action, which made me happy because it was clean compared to what I found on the penultimate visit to the site. In a few rows, we found ourselves under the cable car line, admiring how it goes up and down smoothly from the foothills to the fortress.
The climb through the forest takes about 30-45 minutes and is easy. The path is not marked. Actually there are some markings, but they are painted on the trees only for those who go down! In wet periods, you will encounter a lot of mud in the forest. We were happy with the decision to walk up to the fortress. I made the descent on foot.
