The Toplița mesothermal waterfall is located on the left bank of the Mureș River, on Cascadei Street at number 9, a street that runs parallel to the railway. From Miercurea Ciuc to the Toplița mesothermal waterfall, the 93 km road via DN12 takes 1.5 hours. There is also a railway station in Toplița, located 1 km from the waterfall. It can be visited at any time, free of charge.
The area is a geological and landscape nature reserve. It is a 10-meter high waterfall, but a special one, in that the water of the stream that flows from the Banffy thermal springs and that feeds the waterfall is thermal water. In Romania there are 2 waterfalls with thermal water, the other being the Clocota Waterfall from Geoagiu Bai. The Toplița mesothermal waterfall is unique in Romania due to the travertine deposits precipitated from the thermomineral water. The waterfall freezes very rarely, sometimes in winter the waterfall can offer spectacular images with huge icicles.
The waterfall can be studied from several angles. The water temperature would be 27 degrees Celsius and the water would contain calcium carbonate that permanently changes its appearance due to the deposition of travertine. The combination of waterfall and thermal water is not common.
What is travertine? We are talking about deposits (mineral precipitation) sedimented on vegetation.

In front of the waterfall, there is a place to rest, stop and admire the water fall. A panel is installed next to the waterfall that explains many things. A similar waterfall exists in Saturnia, Italy. We also learn about the flora in the vicinity of the waterfall, which includes no less than 70 species of plants, among which limberita, rock fern, flying beaver, beaver, water ostrich and others. They are also exemplified with images.
