Baia Mare Village Museum is located at 1 Dealul Florilor Street, in Baia Mare, the capital of Maramureș County. The museum is usually open from Monday to Sunday from 8am to 4pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm, with the last entry allowed 30 minutes before closing time. Visiting hours may vary depending on the season, so it's best to check directly with the source. A full ticket costs 12 ron and a guide 25 ron on request. There are also discounted rates of 3 and 6 ron, for photography, filming and events.

About Baia Mare Village Museum

Baia Mare Village Museum is an open-air museum which brings together traditional farmhouses, outbuildings and peasant installations representative of the four large ethnographic regions of Maramures: Țara Chioarului, Țara Lăpușului, Țara Codrului and Historic Maramureș.

The wooden houses, stables, workshops and wooden church in Chechiș (17th century) recreates the atmosphere of the village of yesteryear, illustrating the architecture, occupations and traditions specific to each area. It is the ideal place to discover the diversity and authenticity of the culture of Maramures in one place.

1. Lapus Country

Here you'll find authentic households from Țara Lăpușului - from villages such as Lăpuș, Răzoare or Băiuț. The houses, built of wood with wide porches and high roofs, reflect the rustic style and adaptation to the mountainous area. The sober interiors, with simple furniture and traditional objects, reflect the village life of yesteryear: farming, animal husbandry and crafts.

2. Maramures Country

Dedicated sector Land of Maramures is undoubtedly one of the most impressive in the Village Museum. Households from places like Ieud, Bârsana, Poienile Izei or Bogdan Vodă faithfully reproduce the specifics of the best known and richest in traditions ethnographic regions.

The houses in Maramure are distinguished by solid wood, carved gates and high draniță roofs, reflecting the craftsmanship of local craftsmen. The interiors preserve the warm atmosphere of a traditional homestead: colorful fabrics, dowry chests, icons on glass and objects that speak of a way of life deeply linked to faith and family.

3. Chioarului Country

Households brought from villages such as Oarța de Sus, Bicaz or Baths It reflects the specific architecture of the area: solid wooden houses with low foundations, simple roofs and outbuildings used for wood processing and crop storage.

5. Church of Chechiș

One of the most valuable exhibits of the Baia Mare Village Museum is wooden church in Chechiș, built in sec. XVII. This traditional church was brought here to keep the rural religious architecture alive and to offer visitors an authentic experience of the spirituality of the village of yesteryear.

The construction impresses with solid wood, high shingle roof and carved detailsspecific to the local craftsmanship. The interior preserves icons on wood and glass, altar furnishings and liturgical elements that recreate the traditional religious atmosphere of Maramureș.
