About the Nativity Metropolitan Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral Chisinau is dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lord. It is the most important representative of the Orthodox Church in the Republic of Moldova. The cathedral was built in 1830. Its architecture is different from that of most known Orthodox churches. The style is neoclassical.

1. Around the cathedral

A few alleys lead us to the cathedral building, set back from the street. The building is wide-sided, if I may say so, the front of the entrance seems wider than long.

In front of the cathedral there is a huge, very tall bell tower with several bells of different sizes, it can't fail to be framed in the tourist photos, in front of it is a fountain and further in front, on the street, is the Arc de Triomphe. We found the Cathedral Park adorned for the holy feast of Easter.

Opposite the cathedral is Government House, separated by the Great National Assembly Square.

2. In the cathedral

The interior is very spacious, richly dressed (or blown) in gold, many icons some very large, the faithful who came to listen to the mass did not block the access ways of curious tourist visitors, the choir was also located on the side, several boxes for donations, acathisthes and many places to light candles (inside). I also listened to a few minutes of the service, prayed and prayed and left the church very happy to have included it in the list of places to visit. At the entrance on the left you can buy candles etc.
