2. Courtyard and buildings

The courtyard is neat. In the middle is the cathedral itself, and on the rectangular sides, at the corners, the other buildings. The bodies are linked by open galleries supported by octagonal pillars. It is worth walking through the courtyard and admiring the architectural details. This is also the seat of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Alba.

3. Orthodox Cathedral

The Coronation Cathedral is Orthodox and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The cathedral has a Greek cross plan and a dome in the center, resting on four red marble columns.

In the pronaos there are 4 commemorative plaques recalling the historical events of Alba Iulia, namely the Union of 1600 realized by Michael the Brave, the printing of the new testament of Balgrad, the revolt of Horea, Cloșca and Crișan and the reunification of the Romanians in Transylvania. Here are portraits of Michael the Brave and Mrs. Stanca, King Ferdinand and Queen Maria. The nave is spacious and adorned with neo-Romanesque architectural elements.
