Where, when, how much?

Voroneț Monastery is located in Voroneț, Suceava county, on Voroneț 166 street. You can park in several parking lots located about 400-500 meters away from the entrance to the monastery, for a fee. From there you can walk along an alley through small houses and shops selling food, traditional products and souvenirs. The monastery can be visited daily between 9-20. Admission is free.

About Voroneț Monastery

Voroneț Monastery is the foundation of Lord Stephen the Great and dates back to 1488, being built in only 3 months and 3 weeks, a record of the time. The church is dedicated to St. Great Martyr Gheorghe, the bearer of victory and is Orthodox. The Moldovița Monastery Church is a historical monument and part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

1. The church wall, courtyard and exterior

Voroneț Monastery is surrounded by a thick stone enclosure wall. On the left side is the Bell Tower. The courtyard is kept clean by the nuns who populate the monastery. The exterior painting is fabulous.

The Church of Voroneț Monastery is considered the Sistine Chapel of the Orient. The famous frescoes of the Last Judgment and the Holy Trinity have earned it this reputation. Also famous is the blue of Voronezh, a color considered the only irreproducible today, the most spectacular fresco being the Tree of Jesse.

2. Interior of the Church of St. Great Martyr St. George

The magnificent church of the Voroneț Monastery is dedicated to the Great Martyr George, the bearer of victory.At the entrance to the porch is the icon of Deisis. In the nave is the tomb of Daniil the Hermit, the good counselor of the ruler Stephen the Great. In the votive painting are Stephen the Great, Mrs. Maria Voichița and Bogdan, the ruler's heir.
