Târgoviște Zoo, Dâmbovița

A zoo with a great diversity of animals

Where? When? How much does it cost?

Târgoviște Zoo is located in Chindia Park in the county seat of Dâmbovița, on Calea Domnească. As soon as you go down into the park, the zoo stretches to the left of the main alley, the one with the busts of the rulers.
Visiting hours are from October 1 to March 14 from 9am to 4pm, and from March 15 to September 30 from 10am to 7pm.
The price of a ticket for adults is 8 lei, for children 4 lei, and for groups, pensioners and people with disabilities 3 lei.

About the zoo

According to their website, this was a popular goal for the locals, but I would add not only for them.
Targoviste Zoo has a long history. When Prince Petru Cercel moved the capital to Targoviste and developed the Princely Court, it also included a zoo.
The zoo covers 4 hectares and is home to over 150 species of animals and birds, some unique in Romania, such as the dwarf hippopotamus and the black mangabey monkey.

1. Let's go to the zoo

We enter Chindia Park. To the left of the park's main alleyway, the Voivodes' Alley, is Zoo.

2. Left half

We start off on the far left, off the landscaped trail, because here are the bunnies.

There is a map at the entrance to the zoo to help us plan our route. Here we also learn about the species we will meet.

To the left of the alley on the left are kangaroo, ostrich, ostrich, deer, fallow deer, zebra, llama, fox and raccoon.

To its right are the owl, the pigs, the goats, the donkey. We've reached the opposite side of the entrance.

In the alleys we read a poem now and then.

The trail leads us right past ponies, mouflon and deer to reach the bears, who have an ingeniously landscaped area. We end up in the right half of the garden facing the entrance.

3. Right half

We pass the eagle and to the left of the lane, which now orients backwards, we come across perhaps the most attractive cages, the lion and tiger. Above their cages is an observation point.

In the center is a small artificial lake where we see swans, geese and ducks.

To the right are the monkeys, and towards the exit is a pavilion with reptiles and exotic birds and a fish pavilion.

Here ends the pleasant walk in the animal world of Targoviste Zoo. I appreciated a simple and clear presentation on information boards placed next to each animal or bird species.

Appreciations

We love Targoviste Zoo, which is why we visited it several times. Of course it is full of children with parents and grandparents.
