St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church is in Union Square, next to the statue of Mathias Rex. It can be visited on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00-17:30 and on Sundays from 12:30-17:30. Admission is free.

About St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church

St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church was built between 1316-1390 and opened in 1487. It stands 80 meters high and is built in Gothic, neo-Gothic and Baroque styles. It is considered the most important Gothic building in Transylvania. It was built with the support of the Magyar kings Sigismund of Luxembourg, Laszlo V of Habsburg, Mathias Rex, Ladislaus II of Varna and the citizens.

1. Statue of Mathias Rex and inside the church

The statue of Mathias Rex or Matei Corvin is a tourist landmark of Cluj-Napoca. It is the work of the artist János Fadrusz. The statue is actually a statuary group representing King Mathias Rex and his four generals.

2. Inside

The Gothic architecture stands out. Above the pronaos is the organ in the middle of the nave, on the left is the pulpit, on the sides are prayer and confessional spaces and statues, including a crucifix of Christ. The altar is open, typical of Roman Catholic churches. Brightly colored stained glass windows brighten the interior.
