Rijksmuseum Schiphol. If you are in Amsterdam, at Schiphol airport, "between two airplanes", you can visit the Rijksmuseum. It's not that Rijksmuseum in the city, but it's a smaller one, basically an invitation to visit the big one. It's at Vertrekpassage 8, Schiphol. It is open non-stop and free to visit.

About the Rijksmuseum

"The Great Rijks is located on the Museum Square in Amsterdam. Thanks to its collections it has become one of the world's famous art museums. The names of the painters whose works are in the museum are an invitation in themselves: Vermeer, Van Gogh, J. Steen, others.

"A "baby" of the "great Rijks" is in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, between Lounge 2 and 3. In Rijksmuseum Schiphol 11 works are exhibited, painted landscapes from the 19th century. This period saw a change in landscape art. Until then, painters presented nature as dominant, but later the painting was influenced by human presence, agriculture and cities. Many painters retired to the countryside, closer to nature. As easels and other painting accessories appeared, artists started to paint what they saw in front of them, emphasizing details and natural elements. Towards the end of the 19th century, nature regained its central role in the paintings. Here are some of the paintings on display in the airport museum.
