About Baia Mare Planetarium

Baia Mare Planetarium is part of the Museum of Astronomical Sciences. When it was established in 1969, there was only the planetarium. 2 years later the observatory was attached, today under renovation. In 2020 it became a museum and is now called Museum of Astronomical Sciences Baia Mare.

1. Museum

In the anteroom is organized a space for the presentation of some astronomical information about planets and galaxies. The museum's souvenir shop is also located here.

2. Planetarium

The planetarium is equipped with a Zeiss Skymaster ZKP4 optical-mechanical star simulator, the most advanced in 2015 when it was purchased. It has 2 spheres projecting over 7000 stars, providing high resolution imaging. From 2020 there is also a digital, full-dome projection equipment. The two pieces of equipment are used simultaneously during the presentation. Photography is prohibited during the projection.

The presentation that I attended exposed information about the sun and our solar system, with a presentation of the planets, but also about the galaxies of the universe. The presentation was interactive. On the dome were projected relevant axes according to which the sky is divided, but also suggestive images of the galaxies and zodiacal signs.

Conclusion

Baia Mare Planetarium is a tourist attraction worth a visit. The educational component is consistent and understandable. Certainly many children can learn astronomical information here and, why not, discover a field that they may be passionate about. And this, in particular thanks to the grace of the planetarium's specialized staff. Congratulations!

All the best!
