1. The Roman Lapidarium

The Roman Lapidarium It is one of the major exhibitions at the National Museum of Transylvanian History and offers a glimpse into the world of Roman Dacia through stone monuments, inscriptions, sculptures, and architectural elements. The exhibition brings together artifacts that illustrate important aspects of life during the Roman period, ranging from military organization and urban life to religion, art, and funerary practices. The exhibits help shed light on the evolution of the communities that lived in the province of Dacia and the role that the city of Napoca played during this period.

One point of interest is the Roman inscriptions, which are true historical documents carved in stone. They provide information about the administration, the army, important figures, and the communities that lived in the province of Dacia. Architectural and sculptural elements complete the picture of a world in which stone was used for both construction and for public, religious, and funerary monuments. The reliefs and funerary monuments provide clues about the beliefs, social status, and the ways in which the inhabitants commemorated their dead.

For visitors interested in the history of Cluj, the Roman Lapidarium holds special significance. The exhibits help reconstruct the history of the city of Napoca and the period when it was part of the Roman Empire. A visit to the Roman Lapidarium is an opportunity to discover ancient history through authentic artifacts and to see how inscriptions, sculptures, and architectural remains preserve information about the people and society of nearly two millennia ago.
