Marble Beach, Thassos Island, Greece

1. Marble Quarry

White. On the road between Limenas and Panagia, there is a signalized left turn off to Marble Beach. From this branch the road is no longer paved, but we found it in good condition. It is marble road of Thassos, which will cross marble quarry. A whitish dust rises behind the cars that cross it. The crossing of the quarry is spectacular, it is important to always keep to the main road, the rocks with the right direction appear from time to time, but there are also some branches with secondary roads, which I think it is not advisable to follow. You'll soon get used to the whites before your eyes. Huge blocks of white marble invite you to get out of the car if you want to take a picture. It's true that you'll quickly turn white from the white marble dust in the atmosphere, but we took that for granted when we opted for this destination and this road. We descend in white serpentines down to the sea shore where we meet the unpaved road that leads along the shore of the island, left to Marble Beach and Limenas, and right to Golden Beach.

2. Marble Beach

White and turquoise. Initially we thought we had arrived at Marble Beach, that Marble Beach. But at the foot of the marble quarry, the little beach in front of us was Porto Vathy (Marble) Beach. Turquoise. We were fascinated by the turquoise sea water here. We took pictures and admired the little beach. But our eyes kept drifting toward the turquoise. Toward the sea. Clear and blue-green. And deep.

The beach was laid out with several rows of sun beds and umbrellas, most of them straw. On the way there were a few showers for those bathing here. Just across the road from the beach was the bar. Very nice. With cozy wooden log or marble block tables. With little wooden chairs and big comfortable white benches/sofas. We also ordered a drink from the visiting staff serving at this bar. It's true that the atmosphere invites daydreaming, so even those who were at work fit right in.

Surprised that we still hadn't reached that Marble Beach, we restarted the cars and after another curve, as if, a beach similar to the one we had just left opened up. Now we were at Marble Beach - marble beach. Turquoise. The turquoise was more turquoise here. The sunlight was actually shining at a different angle and the water colors were lighter. Turquoise.

Here we found two small bars, I call them by their diminutive because I compare them to what we found at the other beach. One was on a boat. The beach was wilder than the first. Instead of sand, there were a lot of white, polished rocks. Larger and smaller. Same as the other beach, but more. Gorgeous white polished marble stones on the beach. Deep water here too. We found one end of the beach that we liked very much and chose it as a photo spot on a cliff. But caution is advised.

The beach is surrounded by pine and maslin trees. But in some areas it's arid. That means only white marble. There are parking lots at both beaches presented.
