Where is it and when to visit?

House of Experiments operates in Calea Vitan number 242, Bucharest, somewhat opposite the Vacaresti Natural Park. It is open daily from 10-18. You can take the M3 or M1 subway line to Mihai Bravu station and walk from there or if you want to walk less, bus lines 223 and 102 stop closer to Vitan Bridge.

 

What is the Experimental House?

I'd be inclined to say it's an experiment, but it's fair to say it's already a certainty. Is it a museum? Not exactly! I like to think of it as a different kind of school, inviting us, young and old, to a few lessons in applied, hands-on physics and math. House of Experiments started through a project co-funded by a grant from Switzerland, which then took root and upgraded locally.

1. House and concept

We entered the building on which the name of the place is written in huge letters.

To the left of the entrance we paid and there we also received visitor's bracelets and a small instruction.

The concept of the house is designed in such a way that visitors, children and adults, can experience several applications in two rooms, after carefully browsing the information posted in several languages about each application in the "working point". The "electrical" applications in the smaller room, as well as the needle bed application in the larger room, are presented by a representative from the house at announced times.

2. First experiments

The experiments are in the field of optics, acoustics, logic, electricity, fluids, mechanics. Some of the titles of the experiments are suggestive: magic mirror, moving picture, "divide yourself", waterfall, "equals?" (that's cool!), stereo, foot piano, staple vacuum cleaner, magnetic clouds, bubbles, Maxwell's wheel, short vs. fast road, "where do they meet?", Pythagoras' theorem, wolf, goat and cabbage, intelligence and patience, what a puzzle, others.

3. Highlights

The highlights are the Tesla coil and the Van de Graaff generator, as well as the plasma tube and globe, where we produced lightning, sparks, electrocuted our hair or caught the flourescent tube in whole or in part without connecting it to the mains.

At the end, we enjoyed ourselves at the fakir's bed, where we took turns lying on our backs on a bed with 2100 nails.

Conclusion

House of Experiments is a different kind of education, much more appreciated by children, but also by visitors in general, thanks to its practical applications. Allow 1-2 hours for the visit. Visit the House of Experiments!
