Feldioara Fortress is located on the outskirts of Feldioara, Brasov county, on DC42. You can park for free, on a large space in front of the ticket office. It can be visited daily between 9-18. Tickets cost 20 ron.

About Feldioara Fortress

Feldioara Fortress was built by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, then developed by the Saxons. The fortress consisted of towers,curtain walls, a church, residential buildings. In 2013-2017, the fortress was restored to its 17th century configuration. Feldioara is called Marienburg in German and Főldvár in Hungarian.

1. The entrance to the citadel and the secondary enclosure

Access is via a wide, sloping, cobbled path leading to the gate itself. The entrance to the fortress courtyard is through a barbican connecting two towers.

To the southeast is a secondary enclosure, which is visited. Here we see a brick bread oven on a stone frame filled with earth. The outer enclosure wall has been restored.

2. Grandma's house

We enter the fortress courtyard. Here we see the plan with the 4 towers arranged in cardinal points. We entered through the south tower. Between this and the east tower is the access to the rooms in the fortress wall, on 2 levels, where we learn the story about grandmother's house.

Romanian House It has a porch decorated with wood and adorned with red moss, From the porch you can enter the tindă where they used to dine and chop and tell stories. On display are bark, cushions, cushions, towels, painted mugs and dowry chests.

Saxon House resembles a fortress. The space is practically organized with ornate objects. The specific element is a stylized Saxon dowry chest of different shapes and colours, bearing the name of the owner and the year.

3. Ethnic co-existence

We discover objects from the material heritage of the ethnic groups that lived together in Țara Barsei: Romanians, Saxons and Csangas.

The religions found on these lands are Orthodox and Evangelical. The Orthodox church in Feldioara dates back to the 18th century, the Evangelical one to the 13th century.

4. Teutons

Between the north and west towers is another exhibition space where we see archaeological remains and learn about the arrival of the Teutonic Knights in this land, their armor and helmets and some history. In 1211 the King of Hungary, Andrew II, donated Barsa to the Teutonic Knights to defend the borders. The Teutons reinforce the fortresses they find and build new ones.

5. Citadel Court

In the courtyard of the fortress, surrounded by the four towers to the south, east, north and west, the outline of the church is marked with small stone walls and the silhouette of the fountain is reconstructed. The foundations to the east of the courtyard belong to a monastery from the period after the departure of the Teutons.
