Where, when, how much?

County Museum of Mineralogy "Victor Gorduza" in Baia Mare is located on Traian Boulevard 8. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm, with the last admission allowed 30 minutes before closing time. The full admission ticket costs 16 ron and the reduced ticket 4 ron.

About the County Museum of Mineralogy

County Museum of Mineralogy in Baia Mare is named after Victor Gorduza, the man who founded, developed and made the museum famous at home and abroad. The museum hosts the largest regional mineral collection in Romania, with over 20,000 exhibits such as mine flowers, fossils, minerals, rocks.

1. Victor Gorduza

Victor Gorduza was born in 1942 in Cetatea Albă and he is the one who set up a permanent exhibition of mine flowers in Baia Mare. He was passionate about the study of mineralogy. He is a personality who brought the fame of the museum abroad by participating in temporary thematic exhibitions. His merits are recognized.

2. Petrography

In the hall on the ground floor to the left of the entrance, classified rocks are on display. We see ornamental rocks, learn the properties of minerals, mineral classification. Native elements, sulphides and sulphosphides, carbonates, fluorescent minerals, sulphates, silicates, are on display with explanations.

3. Donations and large minerals

There's also a corner dedicated to Maramureș ores and another for donations. Several large-sized ores are the attraction of the floor before going up to the next level. We see siderite, barite, quartz, stibite.

4. Mine flowers, ores

Upstairs is a large space where there are large, spectacular exhibits that attract with their shapes and colors. I list siderite, quartz, gypsum, gypsum, marcasite, calcite, stibite, rhodochrosite, blendite, chalcopyrite, galena, bertherite. The most spectacular in my opinion is the stibina. On a screen you can watch explanatory and educational movies.

5. Dinosaurs

Back to the ground floor. In the room to the right of the entrance and in the entrance hall we are captivated by the world of dinosaurs. We read about sauropde, Zalmoxes, telmatosaurus, struthiosaurus and elopteryx. The biggest attraction is the dinosaur egg hive.
