Cornești Plateau Targu Mures, Mures

Recreation and outlook over the Mures Valley

Where, when and how much?

The Cornesti plateau is the hill east of Targu Mures, where you go up the Verii street to the forest, where there are several parking lots near a roundabout. Parking is free. You can visit it anytime.

About Cornești Plateau

Cornești Plateau is the highest point of the city of Targu Mures, which reaches its highest point at 488 meters. It is located almost 200 meters from the "city below". There are also several paths, some marked, that climb through the oak and hornbeam forest to the Zoo, located on the Cornești Plateau. The forest here is called "Great Forest".

1. Entry

In the "roundabout" you can take a picture with a stone bear. At the entrance to the pedestrian area, on the plateau there is a barrier and next to it a map of the city.

We enter the wide driveway, basically a two-lane paved road, and walk through the woods on a sunny winter morning.

2. Train, track, routes

The kiosks are all closed. There's a narrow train line. It's a leisure trainbut in winter we realize that they don't circulate. Too bad. The route is in an oval-shaped loop and has 4 stops on the long and short diagonal of the oval. The second station is the Zoo.

To our right is running track, which is used by outdoor enthusiasts, even in winter. A criticism I have to bring to the fact that in some places it is not cleaned of ice, which can lead to accidents, I tell you from experience that last year in this weather we ran daily 20 km.

We also meet some marked trailspaths through the forest.

3. Zoo

At the opposite end of the oval is Zoo, which we also visit, it is the second largest zoo in Romania. More impressions about the Zoo you can read on the link https://mytravel.express/obiective-mte/gradina-zoologica-targu-mures-mures/.

4. Giant Chair and lookout point

We will close the loop on the Cornesti Plateau on the other side of the "O".

In a clearing we meet one of the attractions of this park - Giant Chair.

Near the antennas is belvedere point over part of Targu Mures and the Mures Valley. Long benches are mounted, like in a stadium, placed on terraces, in an area where the perspective is not obstructed by the forest trees.

Conclusion

In fact, here at Cornești Plateau is a park set in a forest with children's playgrounds, a train, a zoo and a lookout point, with bike and running paths and marked trails. It looks a bit derelict and unkempt, don't know what it looks like in summer. But it has a good Google rating and a large number of reviews which would lead one to think of a popular place. In Targu Mures there is also a newer agreement and sports base, the Weekend Complex.
