Bridge of Lies
Bridge of Lies in Sibiu was built in 1859, when the city was rapidly modernizing under the influence of 19th century European architecture. The metal structure of the bridge was made in a workshop in the Austrian Empire, and is considered the first cast-iron bridge in Romania and one of the most modern engineering projects of its time in Transylvania.
The architecture of the bridge combines the elegance of the neo-Gothic style with decorative elements typical of the industrial age. The cast-iron railings are ornamented with geometric and floral motifs and the slightly arched shape gives the bridge a refined and romantic appearance. Original details, including heraldic symbols and decorative elements reminiscent of Sibiu's medieval past, can still be seen today on the metal structure.
Although it is not a large bridge, the Bridge of Lies impresses with its harmony between functionality and aesthetics. Its location in the old city center, between historic buildings and medieval squares, makes it a true architectural symbol of the city and a point of attraction for history and photography enthusiasts.
