About Borsec

Borsec is one of the most famous spa resorts in Romania, located in the north of Harghita County, in a mountain depression surrounded by coniferous forests. It lies at an altitude of about 900 meters, between the Giurgeu and Bistrița Mountains, and is famous for its extremely clean air and mineral springs.

Administratively, Borsec is a small town. The total area of the town is approximately 101 sq km, and the population is around 2.500-2.700 inhabitants, according to the latest statistical data. The community is a multicultural one, typical of the Saxon area of eastern Transylvania. Most of the inhabitants are of Hungarian ethnicity, representing over two thirds of the population. They live alongside Romanians, as well as small communities of Roma and other ethnic groups. Ethnic diversity is also reflected in the confessional structure of the city. The most widespread religious denominations are Roman Catholic, dominant among the Hungarian community, and Orthodox, practiced mainly by Romanians. There are also believers reform and other Christian denominations.

History Borsec

The Fai Fai Fairies' Glens (point 2 on the map) is one of the best known and most visited places in Borsec. Situated close to the center of the resort, the pear meadow offers a pleasant natural setting with walking paths, mineral water springs and interesting rock formations.

The area is ideal for short, relaxing walks in nature, and several trails start from here to nearby attractions such as the Fai Fai Fai Fai Fai Bath, the Ice Cave, the Travertine Quarry, the Bear Cave, the skunk mofeta. Thanks to the scenery and peaceful atmosphere, Poiana Zânelor is one of the favorite stops for tourists visiting the resort. 🌲✨

2. Mineral Water Museum

Mineral Water Museum (point 3 on the map) shows the history of the mineral springs and the development of the resort Borsec. The exhibition includes old photographs, documents and objects related to mineral water bottling, as well as information about the famous brand Borsec.

3. Spring 1 and Spring 2 

Spring No. 1 (Main Spring) and Spring No. 2 (Elizabeth Spring) (points 4 and 5 on the map) are among the best known mineral water springs in Borsec. The water is naturally carbonated and rich in minerals, prized for its taste and beneficial properties. The springs are set up for tourists and visitors can taste the water directly from the source or fill their bottles with mineral water.
