2. Museum of Steam Locomotives

Address: Calea Timisoarei 4I

Museum of Steam Locomotives can be visited anytime being located in an open space in the CFR Museum Park. It is undoubtedly the highlight of the city's sights.

I am glad that on this visit I found the locomotives on display in very presentable condition, and the explanatory panels next to each of them provide information and curiosities worth reading.

The museum boasts that it is the largest open-air technical museum in Europe.

In 1872 the first steam locomotive in South-Eastern Europe was built, which bears the name Resita and is exhibited together with 14 other steam locomotives. In 1922 the Resita Locomotive Factory was built and in 1972 this spectacular museum was opened.

3. December 1st Square and the Funicular

The next stop is in the center. Here you can find the Town Hall, the old shopping center and a few tourist landmarks.

December 1 Multipurpose Hall 1918 is at street number 5.

It is said to be one of our modern multi-purpose halls, with 2 grandstands and almost 2,000 seats. It's run by the mayor's office and from the outside at least it looks dull. I have such a fear that due to the decadence of Resitene indoor sports, we would find more and more rust .... You can park next to the hall for a fee.

Nokia Monument

That sounds interesting! Not on every map. First time I heard about it, it struck me and made me curious. What is it really? The term monument can be misleading. First, it's not down the street, it's up the street! Yes! It's in the shape of a cell phone, it's about 2 meters high and it's anchored to the balcony of the block of flats in the square, on the pedestrian street leading to the Vama Bridge.

Funicular carried much ore to his life, which is now over. It remains a symbol of Resita and you can't miss it if you look up. Part of it passes near the center, over the Barzava River. We found out that a project would have been activated to give it another destination, one related to leisure, high above the city, to be transformed into a pedestrian footbridge and bicycle path. Interesting! Why not?

4. Western Theater and the Customs Bridge

Western Theater It is a beautiful building located on the pedestrian street that connects the center of the market with the Vama Bridge. I hope it will function as long as possible. On past visits I saw it in a better light.

Customs House Bridge, located in Libertatii Street is a pedestrian bridge, once a road bridge, over the Barzava River, and very crossed. It is another construction of the "citadel of fire" once flourishing city due to the steel industry. It is also called the Welded Bridge.

I really like this arched bridge. Over the bridge is a small park - Carasana Park - and ...

Personal impressions and ratings

Sad! I remember Resita in the 1980s, an industrial city in great shape. Resita's factories, operational before the Second World War, had become famous across the border. Here were the country's biggest rolling mills, forges, steel foundries, locomotive factories... Oh, the times! Today the wind is blowing .... and the reigning color is gray.

It's a pity that the tourist potential of the city is not exploited Resita and the area, Resita being the access route to the Semenic Mountains. Museum of Steam Locomotives is by far today's emblem of Resita.

All the best!
