Micăsasa - Long Valley, Via Transilvanica

Terra Dacica - day 1

Access

Micăsasa, our entry point on Via Transilvanica, is located in Sibiu county, close to the border with Alba county. From Sibiu you can get there by road, following DN14 to the north to Șeica Mare, then DJ142J and to the left DN14B. After crossing the Târnava Mare river, the DC78 enters the village of Micăsasa, to the right. The landmark is the Micăsasa Town Hall.

About the Micăsasa - Valea Lungă route

It is an easy and short route, suitable to accommodate the Via Transilvanica (VT), a 1400 km long route that crosses Romania from Putna (SV) to Drobeta Turnu Severin (MH). It is the first stage of the segment called Terra Dacica.

1. Micăsasa

Our route starts at the Town Hall in Micăsasa, where you can also stamp the VT guide. The backup solution is to call the vice mayor, who lives nearby, 100 meters ahead on VT, on Ioan Roată street.

To the right of the town hall are the police station and then the Orthodox church. Opposite is Brukenthal Castle, Szentharomsag Templom and a small square where you can eat and pose for a picture of the Samuel von Brukenthal borna.

The route, very well marked with VT signs, follows Ioan Roata street, forward. On the left, pass the Catholic church and the ruins of the Blacksmiths' Tower, cross the bridge over the railroad, then immediately left on Garoafelor Street and right on the street that will take us out of the village of Micăsasa.

2. Micăsasa - Lodroman

We start the ascent first on a possibly muddy tractor road, then we quickly come out on open ground, on a meadow with grass and wild flowers. We follow the signs to the left up to the antenna, where there is a viewpoint over the village of Micăsasa, the Târnavei Mari Valley, and in the distance the long crest of the Făgăraș Mountains and the Cindrel Mountains to the right. We then cross a forest and pass into Alba county, where the VT segment called Terra Dacica begins. From here we start a slightly steeper descent to the village of Lodroman.

3. Lodroman - Long Valley

The entrance to the village of Lodroman is on Fărului Street, which has a stream valley on the left and beautiful houses on the right. Turn left at a small square and then left again over the bridge onto Teiș Street, from which you immediately turn right onto a dirt road through birch trees. There is no shop in the village of Lodroman, but we can replenish our water supplies from a spring.

We climb again following the VT signs, first through a meadow, then through the forest again. The walk is pleasant. Towards the end we go down among the villagers' cows on the paths that delimit the boundaries of their farms until we reach the Long Street perpendicular. 20 meters to the left is located Agropension Ioana where we will stay, eat and be served palincă and wine. Following VT there are 2 shops. For accommodation and half board we paid 165 lei (in 07/23).
