Buteanu's hunting peak, Făgăraș Mountains

1. Chalet Bâlea Lac - branch off Căldarea Văiugii

Group photo and start from Balea Lac.

In the Balea Lac area is very crowded due to the easy access in summer on Transfagarasan. You can park right next to the old hut "on the lake" - Bâlea Lac Chalet.

Lake Bâlea is located at 2.034 meters above sea level, occupies 5 ha, length / width 360 m / 190 m, depth 11 m and is stocked with fish.

We start on the route marked blue dot (and the blue lane), which initially runs parallel to the Balii Valley, under which the Transfagaras meanders.

2. Văiugii Healing - Văiugii Saddle

50 minutes

Route branching. We turn hard right onto blue dot and we're going into the Blissful Warmth.

We face towards Vf. Vanatoarea lui Buteanu, hunchbacked and stony, from which the descending Netedu ridge is formed, on which the marker we left will reach. We find a few tongues of snow and we advance towards the groom at the front. Although from afar the ascent to the summit seemed difficult, in fact, with a little effort on the last stretch we reach the ridge, where we meet the "classic" route.

3. Văiugii Saddle - Buteanu's Slayer Peak

25 minutes

We are in Văiugii Saddle and it got crowded! Bookmarked blue triangle will take us from here to the top. A new perspective opens up. Ahead, we have the Capra Heights with the Capra and Capra Deer Lakes.

A little before this one we climb across an exposed sector, more recently equipped with safety chains. Spectacular! Again I have to fight with my fear of the steepness... On the last hundred meters the path is aerial, but without any danger after the climbing over the climbing pass.

4. Buteanu's Peak (2.507 mdm) - Goat Peak

15 minutes

Buteanu's Vanat(o)area Peak (2.507 mdm). We climbed for 1,5 hours on a much cooler and freer variant than the "blue triangle avenue". In the 10 minute stop we did a short skyline tour.

Butean, don't get upset, we'll do the wider tour of the horizon from the neighboring peak, Vf. Capra, to get out of the crowds.

We go down for a few minutes on the same path, that is, we go down the chains, and from the trail after the chains, we go down a long left, in easy ascent and in 10 minutes we are on Capra Peak.

Goat Peak (2.494 mdm). Slightly freer.

Skyline tour. Buteanu's Vanatoarea Peak is centrally located on the V-E Fagărășan range, slightly north of the main ridge, offering, like Capra Peak, a wide perspective both to the valleys to the south and north, as well as the highest mountain segment, to the east and west.

To the north is the Oltului Depression, to the south the Capra Valley, which forms the Arges River after Lake Vidraru. On the ridge, to the West, in close plan are Iezerul Caprei Peak, Paltinul Peak, Lăițel Peak, and in plane 2, forming an M or a W, from left to right Lespezi Peak, Cornul Călțunului Peak, Dintre Strungi Peak and Negoiu Peak, where we will reach the next day. To the east, close in is the very rugged Vârtopel - Arpășel ridge, which enters the area of the marked ridge route at La Trei Pași de Moarte, and continues with the peaks of Arpașu Mic, Arpașu Mare flanked by Mircii and Mușetescu, Podragu flanked by Tărâța and Giurgiului Bridge, and in the more distant plane the unmistakable trapezium Viștea Mare - Moldoveanu (right), and further back vaguely, La Fundu Bândei, Dara and Hârtopul Darei.

5. Goat Peak - Revolver Needle - Goat Lake

15 minutes

After 15 minutes break from the Capra Peak and after clearly identifying the descent path from it towards Caldarea Capra to the Mountaineers Monument, facing Moldoveanu, we start to descend the path unmarked another 15 minutes to reach a very aptly named cliff, Acul Revolver.

We arrive in the heat, we pose The Monument of the Mountaineers and we meet the marked path red tape. We stop near Goat Lake.

6. Capra Lake - Capra Saddle

15 minutes

Goat Lake is located at an altitude of 2,230 m, occupies 2 hectares and on its shore is one of the favorite camping spots of many hikers who hike the ridge. Behind the lake is Iezerul Caprei Peak and Saua Caprei, and to the right is the route we traveled earlier on our way down from Capra Peak and Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak.

From Goat Lake we were slowly climbing up Saua Goat (2.315 mdm) on the ridge marked with red tape.

7. Capra Saddle - Bâlea Hut

25 minutes

Capra saddle. Here there is a crossroads, we continue straight ahead and immediately we are shown the Caldarea Balii where we have to go down the blue triangle. We have on the horizon in front of us Saua Paltinul, down Cabana Balea and Balii Valley as well as Transfagarasanul.

Arrive on Bâlea Lac.
