1. Dan Danube Cliff

The knowledge walk starts on the Danube waterfront. From the Marea Unire Boulevard, which is the main road that follows a part of the Danube's course, there are several stairs, rather damaged and uninviting, that go down to the park right on the river bank, on the Danube Waterfront Alley. This is the best place for a stroll in the city. Several floating restaurants organized on boats anchored on the shore offer dining and party options.

With our back to the Danube, looking towards the city, we notice on the left the Fortified Church of St. Precista. It is an orthodox church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

We came out to an important artery oriented to the N, Domneasca street, with a one-way street, on which we pass the "Mihai Eminescu" Park and we point a little further up the "Paul Paltanea" History Museum. It exhibits prehistoric archaeology, ethnography and history. It also has a Lapidarium.

6. Rizer Park

From here we take Traian street to the north, we leave the Central Square on the left and after about 2 km we meet Rizer Park on the right. Personally I think that you can skip this landmark because it is not interesting at all and in addition it is located eccentrically.

7. Răsvan Angheluță Natural Science Museum Complex

We traveled another 4 km through a neighborhood area to reach the closed gate of the Sensorial Garden part of the Botanical Garden. It is part of the "Rasvan Angheluta" Natural Science Museum Complex. It should be open from Wednesday through Sunday between 10 - 18. So I had to bypass the whole complex which also includes a Japanese Garden and an Astronomical Observatory. I re-entered the Boulevard Marea Unire with a nice view of the Danube and the barges at anchor or under way. In this way we found out that there is a second entrance, actually the main one, to the complex.

10. Danube Cliff

I went back partially on the same road to the museum, then I went down to the Danube bank at the ferry crossing point, where the Danube Cliff Alley begins, closing the reconnaissance route from Galati. We photographed the Macin Mountains on the other side of the river and the Danube on the inset.

Personal conclusion

I expected more from Galati. The Danube flows nicely (when not flooding). I liked the waterfront but more in greener seasons. Sorry I couldn't visit the Sensorial Garden. Consider a walk on the Danube waterfront in Galati!

All the best!
