About Vaslui

Vaslui is the county seat of Vaslui county, located in the east of the country, in Moldova. Vaslui can be reached via DN24 Tisita (VN) - Barlad - Vaslui - Iasi - Sculeni, border with the Republic of Moldova, DN2F Vaslui - Bacau and DN15D Vaslui - Piatra Neamt. The distance to Bucharest is 325 km, which can be covered by road in 4.5 - 5 hours. Vaslui county also has an important border point with the Republic of Moldova at Albita, 73 km from Vaslui. The city of Vaslui is situated at an altitude of 170 meters above sea level, covers 70 square kilometers and has about 55,000 inhabitants, of which about 99% are Romanians, and in terms of religious affiliation 90% are Orthodox Christians. The first documentary attestation is from 1375

1. Municipal Center for Tourist Information and Promotion

The address is 51A Stefan cel Mare Street, at the intersection with Frunzelor Street. Opening hours: Monday - Friday between 8 - 16.

The center is very welcoming, rich in information, maps, books, promotional materials. It was a pleasant surprise and the best starting point for sightseeing in the city.

2. Civic Square / Statue of Stephen the Great

Not 300 meters further north, on Stefan cel Mare Street, we find the Civic Square. Here we find a pedestrian plateau, the building of the Administrative Palace with the Prefecture and the City Hall, but also the Statue of Stephen the Great, depicted with a sword in his hand. The statue stands on a travertine pedestal and is made of bronze. It is the symbol of the city. The square is flanked by the Casa de Cultura a Sindicatelor. Here is the center of Vaslui.

3. Stefan cel Mare Museum

Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday 9-17

We continue behind the Administrative Palace, where after 300 meters, we find Stefan cel Mare County Museum. It was inaugurated in 1975 and includes archaeology and history, medieval and contemporary history, ethnography, contemporary plastic art, as well as a humor salon "Constantin Tanase", dedicated in memory of the founder of the Romanian revue theater. In this area there is also a pedestrian area, a continuation of the one in Civic Square. We were posing the statue of Mihai Eminescu and some resting places.

4. Independence Monument

It is a monument realized by the artist Jiga. Here is Independence Square and the end of Mihail Kogalniceanu street. The monument is made of bronze with a travertine plinth and represents on both sides scenes from the War of Independence in 1877.

5. Palace of Justice

The address is in Independence Square.

Piata Independentei is also called Piata Palace of Justice because here is the Palace of Justice, an imposing building, with a storey, built in the late 19th century. The Vaslui Court of Vaslui. Perpendicular to the direction from which we came, to the right, we go up Mihail Kogalniceanu Street, having on our left side Donici Park.

On the Mihail Kogalniceanu street, 500 meters from the Courthouse, on the left side is the bronze statue of Mihail Kogalniceanu and the homonymous high school.

8. Copou Park in Vaslui

At 500 meters from the high school, at the end of Mihail Kogalniceanu street, which is slightly uphill, is Copou Park. Yes. There is a Copou in Vaslui, not only in Iasi. It's a manicured public garden. The main avenue is lined with statues of Mihail Kogalniceanu, Alecu Russo, Mihai Eminescu and Ion Creanga. There is a side entrance to the park from Veteran Turcanu Street. We retreat, with several options, to the southern side of Stefan cel Mare street, at the intersection known as the Cross of the Garii. Distance 2,5 km. Here is the Financial Guard.

9. Princely Court

The address is 58 Stefan cel Mare Street.

We follow Stefan cel Mare street to the north, on the right side. Immediately we reach the Curtea Domneasca Complex which includes the Church of the Cutting of the Head of St. John the Baptist, emblematic for Vaslui. The restoration of the ensemble is at an advanced stage. The church dates from the reign of Stephen the Great. Here was found a part of the former residence of the reigning lord, archaeological excavations brought to the surface fragments of wall from the 15th century, pottery and ornaments. We continue on the main road Stefan cel Mare and pass by the Secondary School "Mihai Eminescu", in front of which is the bust of the greatest Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu.

10. Mavrocordat House

Next is an imposing late 19th century building, which we found in ruins. It was built by Gheorghe Mavrocordat.

11. Victoria Statue

After this we pose the bronze statue Victoria, the creation of sculptor Popovici. Next to it an alley leads to the entrance of the municipal stadium.

12. Monument to the Vasluian heroes who died for the reunification of the nation

Next is the bronze monument mentioned above, located in front of the Army House. A little further up, on the left sidewalk, we recognize the Tourist Info Center, where we started our journey in Vaslui. We end our walk in Vaslui, where else than at the statue of Stefan cel Mare. We left in the evening after a pleasant walk through the Moldavian city.

Conclusions

I left with a pleasant impression about Vaslui, about its tourist info center and I believe that if you will continue to promote the city, more visitors will come to Vaslui, on lands steeped in history.
