1. The church wall, courtyard and exterior

Sucevița Monastery is surrounded by a thick stone enclosure wall with a gate tower and several other towers. Within the monastery wall are built the nuns' cells. The courtyard is neat and tidy.

The architecture of the church contains Byzantine and Gothic elements. The painting is by 2 Moldavian painters: Ioan Zugravul and Șofronie , at the end of the 16th century. The exterior murals on a green background are famous. Of all the painted monasteries in Bucovina, this is the best preserved. The most famous painted religious scene is the Stair of Virtues. The Prayer of All the Saints, the Tree of Jesse, the Hymn of All Saints, Genesis, the Ladder of John the Synaite and the Coronation of the Virgin Mary are also depicted. At the Gate Tower is painted the Resurrection of the Lord.
