Where, when, how much?

Spotted Tulip Nature Reserve is located on the outskirts of Orheiu Bistriței in Bistrița-Năsăud county. From Bistrița there are 14 km to cover by road in 20 minutes via DJ173. After leaving the town, a dirt road, practicable for cars, leads us to the right to the Forest of Șes, located on the left of this road. In this forest is the tulip reserve. Free parking is possible anywhere up to the barrier. Access is free and possible at any time.

About the Spotted Tulip Nature Reserve

The protected area that includes the area where the spotted tulip grows is called The daffodil grove on the Budacului Valley plateau. The purpose of this nature reserve is the conservation of the natural, floristic and faunistic heritage, with a population of Fritillaria meleagris, known in Romanian as the spotted tulip. The reserve covers 6 hectares.

Fritillaria meleagris (spotted tulip) is a member of the liliaceae family. The flower of the spotted tulip is purple or red in color and has petals marked with a squarish, squarish pattern. The plant is 15-40 cm tall. The spotted tulip is protected by law. It blooms from March to May, depending on the climate each year. It can be found in many parts of the country in the foothills, up to 800 meters above sea level.
