Travel guide Sunny Beach, Bulgaria

Blue Flag award for service quality

Location

Sunny Beach is a summer resort located in Eastern Bulgaria on the Black Sea, 37 km north of Burgas and 94 km south of Varna. It borders the town of Nessebar. From Bucharest it is 350 km in 5 hours, from Ruse 4 hours. Bulgarian roads are worse than ours.

About Sunny Beach or Tourism Lesson

Bulgaria and the Bulgarians have been giving us a lesson in tourism for years. I wrote how much I love Mamaia, but I say now after my first vacation in Bulgaria, that tourism in Bulgaria is developed over that in Romania. Here you don't walk among ruined and abandoned buildings, music is played only at the respective terrace and doesn't interfere with the neighbors, the services are good, the prices are comparable, the cleanliness is above expectations and even above Greece, the water and the beach to my liking. The people I met are of a higher quality than those on our coast. I find it hard to believe that Romanian tourists who are fans of Bulgaria or Greece or Turkey, can be convinced to spend their main vacation on the Romanian coast.

1. Nessebar and Old Nessebar

After a first visit from the minicar, the next morning I set out to walk around the resort Sunny Beach from end to end until the world wakes up. Good morning!

South of the resort is town of Nessebar bound by a narrow tongue of earth Old Nessebara masterpiece which I present separately. The closer you get to Nessebar, sand dunes appear and there are more locals on the beaches.

2. Sveti Vlas and Sunny Beach

North is the tourist resort Sveti Vlas. The resort Sunny Beach stretches for 8 km, the most "touristy" area being in the northern third. The hotels, mostly large resorts, look very nice.

3. Beaches and the sea

The beaches are clean. There are private beaches with sunbeds and umbrellas and public beaches. In the evening they are leveled with a tractor, in the morning there is a general cleaning, and during the day sanitation workers remove the dirt that collects here and there. Exemplary. The sand is very fine, golden. Anglers forage for food and announce their presence audibly. Many lifeguard posts on the beach. The entrance to the water is smooth and free of rocks. There are buoys at the safety buoy. Lifeguards fly green, yellow or red flags depending on the weather conditions. I've caught a few days with good waves, but also a day with calm seas.

4. Distractions

More "on the water" entertainment awaits tourists: boating, parasailing, jet skiing and more. On "dry land" there is the Ferris wheel, a pedestrian promenade, minicab rides, hundreds of kiosks lined with souvenirs, sweets, clothes, massage, photo and many terraces. Two amusement parks flank the most visited area.
