Why go to Mihai Eminescu commune?

At Ipotesti, in the native village of the national poet Mihai Eminescu, you can visit at least 3 important sights: the poet's parental house and the Eminovici family church, located in the same courtyard, and the Lake with Water Lilies, which inspired the poet. Besides these, in the courtyard of the museum (the parental house) there are signposts to the National Poetry Library and to a period peasant house. Also in this courtyard is a Tourist Information Center, well documented. From here you can also buy tickets for all the listed sights.

Tourist Information Center

I recommend you start your visit at Info Center in the museum courtyard. Here you can find brochures and books, rich information about Mihai Eminescu and Ipotesti. The second reason to start here is to buy tickets. I appreciated that there are several employees who take turns groups or tourists arriving and guide and inform them very well.

  • In 1883 he fell ill and a possible wrong diagnosis/treatment or something else led to his death on June 15, 1889.

1. Eminescu's parental home

The house is well preserved and is historical monument. The house is simple, painted white, with no upstairs, but with a small porch through which you enter. It is actually Eminovici family home. The house we visit was built on the original foundation of the old house, which had become a ruin and was demolished. Here Childhood Mihai Eminescu. Some of the furniture is original. The Gheorghe and Raluca Eminovici family was large. It is kept in the first room on the right, in living roomThe pictures of the 5 boys and 2 girls of the family, the other children having died at young ages. In the middle of the room there is a table with chairs and a piano on the wall. We appreciated a very nice antique clock. The room to the left of the entrance is office. Several manuscripts of the poet show that he wrote neatly and calligraphically. On the wall there are 2 paintings with less known pictures of Mihai Eminescu. There are very few pictures of the poet. On another wall there are pictures of his parents. The third room is a bedroom.

2. Court

In the courtyard there is also sculpture, a monument, representing the work of the poet, with a symbolic eye to the sky. At the base we read the verses of Eminescu:

"and the sky is my father / and my mother is the sea".

At the side of the house is built an amphitheaterwhere cultural events are organized.

4. Lake with water lilies

If you have arrived in Ipotesti and visited the Mihai Eminescu Memorial House, break another hour to walk in the footsteps of the great poet. To do this, take the DC61 and the 3rd street to the right and right again to arrive after 3,5 km in Baisa Forestwhere to find it Lake with water lilies (of Eminescu). The access road to the parking lot is asphalted, and then there are marked tourist trails through the forest. I recommend the paved path blue dotwhich leads after 500 meters to the lake. Panels on both sides of the alley invite you to read the poet's verses and enter Eminescu's world of dreams and inspiration. From the lake, turn right a few hundred meters further on blue cross until Observatory. You can stay as long as you want, contemplate nature, the forest, the lake, you can read from Eminescu or you can enjoy and surround yourself with love.

Ratings and reviews

For the sights in Mihai Eminescu locality, from me maximum marks because of the way the house and the church are preserved, because of the well organized and documented info center in the courtyard, because of the very good guide and because of the possibility to dream through the woods that inspired the poet. It is a very popular tourist destination and well rated on Google. Visit Mihai Eminescu's birthplaces and the places where he was born, give your time and love to places that tinkle differently.

Feel free to visit the city Botoșani only 10 km away.

All the best!
