Natural Science Museum Complex Galati

Botanical Gardens, Museum, Aquarium and Observatory

Where? When? How much does it cost?

The Galati Natural Science Museum Complex is located at 6A, Regimentul 11 Siret Street, postal code 800340 and bears the name of Răsvan Angheluță. The main entrance, where there is also a free parking lot, is next to the roundabout where the Marea Unire Boulevard starts and from where the branch leading to the ferry is formed. The park, so to speak, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Last entry is allowed 1 hour before closing. At both entrances, in two different rows, I encountered very rude and obnoxious employees. The price of a ticket is 7 lei for adults and 2 lei for children and others.

About "Răsvan Angheluță" Natural Science Museum Complex Galati

"Răsvan Angheluță" Natural Science Museum Complex Galati presents to the public a sprawling park, a botanical garden, a museum, an aquarium and planetarium with astronomical observatory. The zoo is also part of the complex, but is located outside the city. The museum complex here is actually an institution dedicated to researching and conserving the biodiversity of natural ecosystems. It was established in 1990 in this organization. The Museum Section, a first museum in fact, has been active since 1939, later the Museum of Natural Sciences appeared in 1956. A map of the park can be found at the ferry entrance.

1. Botanical Garden

It is the newest botanical garden in Romania, established in 1990, when the construction of the Museum Complex was put into practice. The first plantings took place only 5 years later. The Botanical Garden covers 18 hectares. It has the following subdivisions: to the left of the main alley entering from the parking lot we have Romanian flora, Ornamental flora, a beautiful rosarium, a sensorial garden and a nursery; to the right of the main alley are the (closed) greenhouses, useful flora, Mediterranean flora, Japanese garden, Asian flora and North American flora. Although there is some signage, the demarcation of these areas is not clear.

2. Museum

The museum is located to the right of the main alley, at an acute angle to it. The museum is reached up a flight of stairs. You can see it from the entrance. From the top, next to the museum, there is a view of the park, but also a wider view of the Television Tower. In the museum, on the ground floor, we found the temporary amber exhibition, which is interesting. Another amber museum, even richer, is in Colți, Buzău county. On the museum's first floor we learn about the 3 species of vipers that live in Romania. We also see stuffed birds and butterflies. A larger area is dedicated to the Carpathian Mountains and the fauna that lives here. And higher up, in the dome, images of the planets lead to the astronomical observatory, open only in the evening on 4 days of the week.

My impressions

The Natural Science Museum Complex in Galati is unfortunately repulsive because of the attitude of the people at the entrance. Otherwise the park is beautiful. It shows the lack of a good organizer/coordinator.

You can read a guide about Galati on the following link https://mytravel.express/ghiduri-mte/ghid-turistic-galati/.

All the best!
